LAst Night's Action: A Masked Kobe Tames Wolves

LA Lakers defeat Minnesota Timberwolves 104-85. Kobe Bryant passed all his concussion tests and played the game with a plastic mask. Kevin Love sat out the game with flu-like symptoms for the Wolves. After running away from the Clippers Tuesday night, the Wolves looked out of gas against the well-rested Lakers. For all the hoopla made over Kobe’s concussion and broken nose, he quietly knocked in 31 points along with seven boards and eight assists. And to the delight of the crowd, everyone got tacos.

Buffalo Sabres defeat Anaheim Ducks 2-0. It’s hard to beat a goaltender who stands on his head, and that is exactly what the Ducks faced. Sabres’ goalie Ryan Miller had an extraordinary game saving all 43 shots from the Ducks, 20 alone in the third period. The Ducks’ frustration became evident as Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry got fighting penalties and both teams exchanging greetings after the final horn sounded.

One year ago, Congress voted to defund public media, eliminating a critical $1.7 million from our budget every year going forward. But they couldn’t silence us, and we’re not going anywhere. LAist is now 100% community funded and that means we’re taking our future into our own hands and turning to you to keep local reporting strong.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our nonprofit newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our communities. We are free to follow facts wherever they lead and to hold power to account without fear or favor. Our only loyalty is to our readers and listeners and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen Southern California’s communities.
