LAst Laugh: This Week in Comedy

It's comedy time at LAist, and this week is looking particularly great. As always, a slew of great indie shows play nice alongside the established shows at the big boy theaters around town. Can't we all just get along? When comedy is involved, we sure can.
If you've got an upcoming show you'd like to see listed, email me.
MONDAY 4/4
Harold Night, 9:30p UCB. The Great War and Kid Grift are killing UCB’s Harold Night improv show these days. Get in the standby line early to find out why.
Cherry Crush, 10:30p iO West. Indie improv teams get the chance to battle each other for cagematch supremacy, while your host team rounds out the evening.
TUESDAY 4/5
Holy F*ck, 9p Downtown Independent. Always a great downtown stand up show, this go-round features Johnny Pemberton, Doug Mellard and a bunch more great folks.
Tuesday Night Thunder, 10p Noho Stages. This indie improv show actually starts at 8 and goes all night, but the 10p hour is killer: Thunderstruck, Ladies & Gentlemen and Hip Hop Penguin.
WEDNESDAY 4/6
Laughing With the Stars, 8p Laugh Factory. Tom Arnold continues to run this successful weekly stand up show, with special guests. This week includes The Blanks from Scrubs.
The Meltdown Show, 8:30p Meltdown Comics. James Adomian, Eric Andre, Greg Proops and more!
THURSDAY 4/7
Lydia Locket Shot Herself…, 8p UCB. Becky Feldman’s character show is absolutely outstanding, and appearing alongside Tricia and Johanna’s Lady Parts only makes it better.
Set List, 8p Comedy Central Stage. Improvised stand up from some of the best in the game: Matt Besser, Dana Gould, Ron Lynch and more.
FRIDAY 4/8
Help Save the Theatre, 8p Santa Monica Playhouse. The SM Playhouse is in trouble, guys. But you know who cares about it? Lily Tomlin, and she’s getting out to voice her support. So should you, with some crazy musical comedy.
Bobby Lee, 10p Brea Improv. Lee is at the Brea Improv all weekend.
SATURDAY 4/9
SecondCity ThisWeek, 8p Second City. Climb the SecondCity stairs for a night of sketch inspired by the week’s events, plus a special guest. This week is Maribeth Monroe.
Uhh Yeah Dude, 8p Largo. Seth Romatelli and Jonathan Laroquette are two dudes who have a lot to say about, well, pretty much anything.
SUNDAY 4/10
Adam Carolla Podcast, 5p Irvine. The time isn’t ideal, but you can’t deny that Carolla puts on a good show come podcast time.
Feel Good Comedy, 7:30p Hollywood Improv. An alternative stand up show, featuring Liz Stewart, Jerrod Carmichael and more.
As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.
Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.
We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.
No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.
Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.
Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
