LAst Laugh: This Week in Comedy
Photo courtesy jakerome via LAist Flickr pool.
With the weather changing back into reasonable, it's the perfect week to get out and...stand in line to get back inside a building... At any rate, you can make laughter your sunshine, or just spend your day looking out your office window, so by the time these shows start you're so sick of the sun you can't stand it.
If you've got an upcoming show you think we should be on the lookout for, email us here and we'll do our best!
MONDAY 3/28
The Smokes, 7p UCB. A slew of great NY-turned-LA improvisers (including Billy Merritt, Eugene Cordero, Lennon Parham, and Joe Wengert) bring the scene up a level every Monday at 7pm.
Ultimate X-Ecution, 8p iO West. The latest iteration of this improv elimination show kicks off its first week of comedy slaughter at iO West.
TUESDAY 3/29
Comedy Death Ray, 8:30p UCB. CDR remains one of the best stand up shows in town, with premiere talent trying out new stuff and generally keeping the place in stitches.
A Great & Terrible Thing, 10:30p Improv Lab. Equal parts great and, well, terrible, this new storytelling show pulls in Josh Simpson, Dave Horwitz, Alison Agosti, Amanda Sitko and more.
WEDNESDAY 3/30
Hot Mess, 8p Comedy Central Stage. Hot Mess is a UCB Maude team (Alison Becker, David Neher, Jordan Morris and more) with some great stage sketches under their belts. Come out to the Comedy Central Stage for a free night of their best stuff.
Meltdown Show, 8:30p Meltdown Comics. Chelsea Peretti, Sam Brown (from the Whitest Kids U Know), Chris Hardwick and a bunch of other great folks.
THURSDAY 3/31
Psychology and You!, 7p SecondCity. Let Alex Gradet and Rick Paulas guide you through the intricacies of the human mind, with special guests including Ron Babcock.
HAMCLOWN, 8:30p The Mezz @ Alexandria Hotel. What’s not to love about a free show downtown at the “wonderfully decrepit” Alexandria Hotel? This month includes Brody Stevens, Dave Foley, the Walsh Brothers, Raj Desai, Lizzy Cooperman and more.
FRIDAY 4/1
Rory Scovel, 8p Hollywood Improv. Rory drops by the Melrose Improv location for a Friday night set.
Al Madrigal, 10:30p Ice House. Madrigal will have to make the grueling several minute drive from LA to Pasadena for a set of shows throughout the weekend.
SATURDAY 4/2
Andrew Dice Clay, 9p Brea Improv. Well, you know… if this is something that appeals to you, the Dice man is in Brea Friday and Saturday night for a bunch of shows.
Cedric the Entertainer, 9p Ontario Improv. What a Saturday night it would be if you caught the early Dice show, and then followed it up with this?
SUNDAY 4/3
Jim Norton, 7p Irvine Improv. Norton is headlining in the OC all weekend.
True Story, 11p iO West. A new comedy storytelling show takes over the mainstage at iO West.
As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.
Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.
We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.
No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.
Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.
Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
