LAst Laugh: This Week in Comedy
Photo by lord-jim via LAist Flickr pool.
It's another wild comedy week here in LA, and there are quite a few charity shows to throw into the mix. Alison Becker's monthly INDIGLO show is happening this week at MBar, the Chris Gethard Show is rolling into UCB, and Tiger Lily looks to kill with an amazing line-up.
If you've got an upcoming show you'd like to see listed, email us and we'll see what we can do!
MONDAY 1/24
Tiger Lily, 8p Hollywood Studio Bar & Grill. Chris Hardwick, Matt Braunger, Moske Kasher, Kumail Nanjiani, Rob O’Reilly, and the Walsh Brothers. To say the least.
UpFronts, 8p iO West. Check out the best that the Tater Simkins and the WLC Network have to offer in the way of fall programming.
TUESDAY 1/25
Murderfist, 7p iO West. One of New York’s best sketch comedy groups takes over the iO West stage for an evening of insanity.
New Material, 8p Laugh Factory. Kevin Nealon continues to host this weekly stand up show, with the usual litany of special guests.
WEDNESDAY 1/26
Meltdown Show, 8p Meldown Comics. Moshe Kasher, Jen Kirkman, the Sklar Brothers, Max Silvestri, and sketches from Murderfist out of NYC. Yikes!
Cursing for a Cure, 8p Ontario Improv. Greg Tollman hosts a night of jokes and filth, with proceeds going to charity.
THURSDAY 1/27
Ian Bagg, 8p Ice House. Bagg is in Pasadena all weekend, so don’t fret if you can’t make this show.
The Chris Gethard Show, 8p UCB. Gethard is currently in an RV, crisscrossing the country doing outlandish things. But he’ll be at UCB on Thursday for one night only. Get in the standby line. Now.
FRIDAY 1/28
John Heffron, 10p Irvine Improv. Heffron is in Irvine all weekend.
Let’s Do This!, 11p UCB. LDT is Boys v. Girls for one night only. Come vote for the funnier sex.
SATURDAY 1/29
Al Madrigal, 9p Ontario Improv. Madrigal is making the trek to Ontario for the weekend.
Australia is Really Down Under, 9:30p Hollywood Improv. Jim Jeffries, Eddie Ifft, Wil Anderson and more lend their talents to help those affected by the flooding in Australia.
SUNDAY 1/30
Laughing Cuz We Care, 12p Brea Improv. Get out early to give some giggles and dollars to help the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
INDIGLO, 9p MBar. Alison Becker hosts a monthly stand up show at MBar, with proceeds going to a charity of her choosing. This month has Brett Gelman, Chris Fairbanks, Mike Phirman, and Crystal Angel. Proceeds benefit Friends of the Good Shepherd, Mobay, which helps disabled children in Jamaica.
As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.
Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.
We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.
No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.
Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.
Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
