Kanye West To Reveal 'Visual' For New Song Friday At The Forum
The artist and rapper turned one-man publicity machine Kanye West has announced plans to debut the "visual" from "Famous," the first single on his most recent album The Life Of Pablo, this Friday at The Forum. The "visual" for the song (is this just a music video?) will simultaneously be livestreamed on TIDAL, along the lines of West's Madison Square Garden livestream premiere of the album in February. The "exclusive premiere event," as a TIDAL press release describes it, will take place at 7 p.m. Friday June 24, andtickets will go on sale for $25 at 10 a.m. PST tomorrow morning through Ticketmaster. The press release doesn't say anything about West actually attending Friday's event, though he will be playing four nights at the Forum in October.
So to debrief, you can pay $25 plus fees, plus god only knows how much parking costs at The Forum on a Friday night, plus at least eight bucks if you want to so much as buy a soda, all for the honor of being the first to see something that used to be called a music video, which will simultaneously be livestreamed across the globe. Did we get all that right?
The "visual" (music video?) for “Famous” will be apparently also be exclusively available for TIDAL for a week following the livestream. Per the press release, "the 'Famous' livestream is the latest example of the exclusive content and experiences available for TIDAL members, solidifying the platform as a go-to destination to connect fans to their favorite artists."
What does that even mean? Is this really an experience? We are all on this planet for such a short time, and soon we will be dead. One could argue that nothing we are doing here particularly makes any sense, so why call out Kanye? I guess this is as good a way to spend a Friday night as any. The Forum fits 17,505 people so at least, for once, you won't be alone. :-)
At LAist, we believe in journalism without censorship and the right of a free press to speak truth to those in power. Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.
But the game has changed: Congress voted to eliminate funding for public media across the country. Here at LAist that means a loss of $1.7 million in our budget every year. We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.
We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else.
