Yeezy For President: Big 'Kanye 2020' Banner Is Hanging Off This Building

Congress has cut federal funding for public media — a $3.4 million loss for LAist. We count on readers like you to protect our nonprofit newsroom. Become a monthly member and sustain local journalism.

We still don't know if Kanye West was serious when he blurted out that he was running for President in 2020 during the MTV VMAs. Everyone from President Barack Obama to Donald Trump has had something to say about it, and now an L.A. man is sending a message as well with a massive banner emblazoned with "Kanye 2020?" strewn across the the top of his building.

It turns out that Shawn Far, the owner of Casa Vertigo, a four-story event space in Pico-Union, isn't exactly endorsing Yeezy for President, or rather #Kanye2020. Chris Go, the director of events at the 88,000-square-foot building, told LAist that Far is a pop-culture aficionado. He had the banner put up yesterday because he wanted to start a conversation and be part of the discussion. That explains why there's a question mark at the end of the sign, Go said. It's not clear how long this sign will stay up.

Two years ago, Far had a "Twerk Miley" banner up on the same building shortly after the MTV VMAs aired. This year, he asked his team to watch the awards show and keep an eye out for something big, and of course, West's over 13-minute long speech got the most buzz. This most recent sign replaced one that said "Welcome to L.A."

And if West wants to make an appearance at Casa Vertigo for whatever reason, even to further his presidential campaign, Far probably wouldn't mind, Go said. Even Cyrus noticed her own "Twerk Miley" sign and posted a photo of it on Instagram. So, basically, anything's possible.
