GQ Profiles Porn Star James Deen

One year ago, Congress defunded public media. Now that we're 100% community funded, please become a sustaining member or increase your existing membership today.

James Deen has, over the past few months, arguably become one of the most famous male porn stars since Ron Jeremy. After an epic profile in the winter issue of GOOD, the story of his unusual lifestyle has been covered by Nightline, The Atlantic and Slate, to name just a few.

Now, GQ has gotten on the Deen train, devoting seven (online) pages to an in-depth look at the 26-year-old adult film actor's licentious day-to-day liaisons. The article follows Deen from shoot to shoot, mostly taking place in and around Los Angeles, as writer Wells Tower tries to determine whether he could do the job as well as Deen -- or if, indeed, he could do it at all.

Our hero starts off in Calabasas, makes his way to San Francisco, and then winds back up in Pasadena, his hometown. Along the way, Tower discovers that having sex with multiple women every single day isn't all it's cracked up to be, likening the experience (as far as his voyeuristic eyes could tell) to the gluttonous consumption of red meat:

After the foregoing days, any normal man would view the prospect of more tungsten-lit sex with strangers the way you might view a sixty-ounce steak after a hot-dog-eating contest.

We won't ruin the end of it for you, but suffice it to say Deen's star is rapidly rising, and he might just be bringing the rest of Porn Valley with him.

One year ago, Congress voted to defund public media, eliminating a critical $1.7 million from our budget every year going forward. But they couldn’t silence us, and we’re not going anywhere. LAist is now 100% community funded and that means we’re taking our future into our own hands and turning to you to keep local reporting strong.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our nonprofit newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our communities. We are free to follow facts wherever they lead and to hold power to account without fear or favor. Our only loyalty is to our readers and listeners and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen Southern California’s communities.
