Excelsior, Mural Fans! Stan Lee Gets A Spray-Painted South LA Tribute

When Los Angeles loses a hero, we mural hard, with tributes popping up as our way of saying this person had an impact. Marvel comic book icon Stan Lee, who made L.A. his home for decades, was no exception -- artists set to work after his death earlier this month, and now video of the artwork from these True Believers has been posted.

The mural depicts him alongside his most famous heroic creation, Spider-Man, as well as Fantastic Four archvillain Doctor Doom. He birthed these comic book creations alongside artists Steve Ditko and Jack Kirby, and became the man who championed characters like them to the mainstream for the rest of his life.

The mural went up in South L.A. at 48th Street and St. Andrews Place, behind the Barack Obama Global Prep Academy middle school.

It took a full team of artists -- contributors include Levi Ponce, Tetriswai, Trinidad "Mike" Rivera, Red Ortiz, and boomallday. The video was posted by artistic collective SopitaGvng.

Lee created worldwide icons and L.A. isn't the only city recognizing that, in mural form -- he's already received other murals including one commissioned by Red Cinemas in Greensboro, North Carolina, as well as one in East London.
