Make 'Time' For The Bagavagabonds' Art Explosion Tonight
The Bagavagabonds are at it again and tonight's Time-themed Art Explosion at the Dietch Arts Continuum will showcase some of the best creative energies in LA. Original art by established artists as well as newcomers will be on display and available for purchase, including a piece by author Dave Eggers. Everything will be sold via silent auction for less than $100, with proceeds benefiting Room 13 LA.
This will be the fifth Art Explosion hosted by this art-loving group of like-minded friends, and the art won't be limited to what's hanging on the walls. Additional highlights and activities will include live "art activations," a ping pong lounge, food and drinks, DJ sets, a photo booth, live music, silk-screening and a "Time Out" music corner featuring original and cover tunes by bands such as Little Wings and Hi Ho Silver Oh.
The "5 for 50" film tent will feature 15 original short films, including four by Matt Sharp (formerly of Weezer, now in The Rentals) from his ambitious Rentals project Songs About Time.
There will even be an old-fashioned letterpress on hand to print 100 limited-edition, 11 x 17 show posters for the event.
The entrance fee (21 and older only) will be $12, and be sure to bring cash if you'd like to buy some art. The Bagavagabonds expect to have approximately 200 pieces for sale—100 by students and 100 by adults. The price for each piece will start at $10 and will increase in $10 increments during the silent auction. Bidding will close around 10 p.m., though the event will continue until 1 a.m. with music and more.
The benefiting local charity, Room 13 LA, is "a student managed & financed, sustainable, multimedia studio at a public school. It's a place where professional artists can inspire and mentor young artists while at the same time getting re-energized by the young artists' creativity."
It'll all kick off tonight, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m. in the Dietch Arts Continuum at 1947 S. Santa Fe Ave. in downtown LA. Street parking will be available on 11th St. and 15th St.
