Hopeless Romantic Drake Bought Rihanna A Billboard
Rihanna will be receiving the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, an honor that's been bestowed upon artists ranging from the Beatles (yes, really), to Beyonce over the years. It's a cool award to get! So naturally, Drake, the Lloyd Dobler of hip hop, made a grand gesture, congratulating his rumored girlfriend with an enormous billboard in Los Angeles that reads, "Congratulations to Rihanna from Drake and Everyone at OVO." The "...and Everyone at OVO" is a pretty obvious attempt to dial back the thirst, but whatever.
The billboard was spotted by black-ish actress Yara Shahidi, who posted a photo on Twitter. We're not exactly sure where the billboard is, but perhaps the reason Drake and YG were cruising around L.A. was to scope out good spots for it? If you happen to see it, drop us a line.
While most of the reactions were declaring this as peak #relationshipgoals, this hater had to pick apart the billboard's aesthetic of all things:
It certainly seems to suggest the reunion of "Aubrih," the couple's brilliant portmanteau that I was made aware of via ABC News (Drake's birth name is Aubrey Graham).
While Rihanna seems to have appreciated the gesture, a billboard's not quite as, practical, shall we say as a bunch of pot, which she got as a present on Valentine's Day a few years ago
As for the bad gal's VMA performance? The show's executive producer Jesse Ignjatovic told Entertainment Weekly that "it's going to be one of those holy crap VMA moments. She’s not playing. She’s bringing it." Can't wait.
