50 Shades Of Patrick Bateman: Bret Easton Ellis Wouldn't Mind Writing "Grey" Screenplay
Bret Easton Ellis has been shocking the public for decades, with novels like Less Than Zero and American Psycho. More recently, he's been shocking people via his Twitter feed (for instance, about the alleged Canadian killer bearing resemblance to his American Psycho main character, "I'm completely offended by recent articles in the news: Luka Magnotta is a fucking amateur compared to Patrick Bateman"). Now, he wants in on the BDSM romance trilogy that's on top of bestseller lists—Fifty Shades Of Grey!
Ellis just Tweeted, "I'm putting myself out there to write the movie adaptation of 'Fifty Shades of Grey'..." Fifty Shades Of Grey and its two sequels features the romance between handsome, young, billionaire businessman Christian Grey and naive college student Anastasia. Grey wears grey ties and the book, which has been dubbed "mommy porn", feature graphic (and cringe-worthy) BDSM sex scenes—"Uncoiling from the floor, rising lazily, like a jungle cat, he points the end of the riding crop at my navel, leisurely circling it — tantalizing me. At the touch of the leather, I quiver and gasp."
Of course, Ellis has experience in the "S" part of BDSM, given the sadistic passages in American Psycho, and he could probably bring some interesting edginess to the project. Of course, part of us wishes it was the 1980s, so James Spader could play Christian Grey. But the mother of all possible "Fifty" rumors started this week, when it was suggested that Angelina Jolie might be interested in directing the adaptation.
