Summer's Here So Drive Sober: DUI Checkpoints This Weekend
The days are longer than before, so everyone's raging harder. Just remember to be sober before you get behind the wheel! The LAPD—along with dozens of other local law enforcement agencies—will be out in full force through the weekend, and this includes DUI checkpoints. While some people feel like publishing DUI checkpoints in advance helps people get away with drinking and driving, studies show that giving people advance notice actually helps to reduce drinking and driving.
"People having foresight aren't the ones who are committing this crime," LAPD Chief Charlie Beck told LAist. "People who are thinking ahead aren't the ones that this checkpoint is likely to catch. I think that the publicity surrounding these things is so important that if you give a couple of locations, that's fine."
Here's the checkpoints for this weekend. Be safe, have a designated driver, or call a cab/Uber/Lyft.
