If you look both ways before crossing the street today near the Blue Line Station at Willow Street and Long Beach Boulevard, you're probably going to see a bunch of motorcycle cops from the Long Beach PD lying in wait to nab traffic and pedestrian offenders. It's part of a crackdown that got underway after 7 a.m. this morning aimed at citing illegal left turn violators, jaywalkers and distracted motorists (cellular phone and text users), Metro explains in a news release. The message of the mission is safety around Metro's Blue Line Trains. Says Metro: "One way to drive home that message is issuing citations to flagrant violators who do not pay attention to rail warning signs, signals, flashing lights, crossing arms, bells and train horns."

Fines averaging $450 might get their attention after today.
