Deputies fatally shot a man who tried to flee from them during a bicycle traffic stop in Lancaster last night.

Christian Cobian, 26, was killed last night just before 11 pm when deputies tried to stop him for committing a traffic violation, according to CBS Los Angeles. Cobian dropped his bike and fled on foot before he was shot.

Sheriff's deputies said that they saw Cobian reach for his waistband as he fled. They shot him because they were afraid that he was reaching for a gun. Currently no news outlets have been able to find out whether or not a gun was recovered from the scene.

Sheriff's homicide detectives, the coroner, the DA and the Office of Independent Review are all investigating the circumstances of the shooting, according to City News Service. Another male suspect was also placed in custody, but deputies are not discussing his role in last night's shooting. The arrestee's name and booking charges were not released by the department.
