In what police are saying is a random assault on a stranger, a woman attacked another woman with a hammer outside an Anaheim bank Tuesday. The incident took place at about 4:15 p.m. when the victim was exiting the Chase Bank in the 500 block of North Euclid Street, according to ABC7. In the parking lot, she was ambushed by a hammer-wielding stranger who delivered blows to the victim's head and face.

Apparently, the whole brutal confrontation was part of a scheme to commit a robbery.

"Our investigation determined that she had tried to rob the victim and actually assaulted her by hitting her in the head with a hammer," said Sgt. Mark Irwin with the Anaheim Police Department.

Fortunately, bank employees jumped to the victim's rescue, and restrained the suspect until police arrived. The victim was taken to the hospital, while the suspect was taken into custody.
