Today, the Santa Monica Police Department announced the city's new crime mapping tool. It's a great start, but it's a bit clunky when compared to LAPD's crime map.
Data, stored for the last 90 days, can be searched by type of crime in relation to an address, intersection, landmark or within the city's boundaries. Only sex-related crimes are not included. "Due to the unique and sensitive issues surrounding sex-related crimes, the Santa Monica Police Department does not provide information about those crimes through this system," the site says. The LAPD includes rape on their maps.
The department will continue to post daily calls for service logs and arrest reports on their website. For example, 217 calls to police for service were made and 13 people were arrested yesterday.
