OJ Simpson Rumored to Be Selling Knife Allegedly Used to Kill Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman
The knife that was used to kill Nicole Brown, estranged wife of football star and actor OJ Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman, was never recovered. But the rumor mill is churning with the grist of a story circulating that Simpson not only has the knife, but he's trying to sell it for $5 million.
The rumor comes courtesy "a source" who spoke with the National Enquirer. The story appears in their print edition, but is told on their sister-site, RadarOnline:
"O.J. wants the deal to be a well-kept secret,” confided the source. “He’s looking for a strictly cash deal so that the money can be deposited in offshore accounts and can’t be traced directly to him.”
The buyer is speculated to be a wealthy memorabilia collector.
The fact that the knife has been missing since the grisly murders in Brentwood is partially why Simpson was acquitted. The killer--or, for those inclined, Simpson--did not throw the knife away, though many thought it was tossed in the trash at Los Angeles International Airport or taken by Simpson to Chicago and disposed of there. Another rumor: The knife is stashed in the Bahamas.
Simpson is currently serving time for robbery in Nevada.
Recently, Kato Kaelin, who was considered a minor witness to the murders but declared a hostile witness due to shaky testimony, was quoted as saying he knew Simpson committed the killings. Kaelin subsequently denied having said that.
At LAist, we believe in journalism without censorship and the right of a free press to speak truth to those in power. Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.
But the game has changed: Congress voted to eliminate funding for public media across the country. Here at LAist that means a loss of $1.7 million in our budget every year. We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.
We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else.
