An off-duty officer from the Beverly Hills Police Department was arrested Tuesday night on suspicion of driving under the influence after he crashed his pickup truck into a telephone pole, retaining wall, and house in Simi Valley.

The crash led to the rupture of a natural gas line, according to City News Service, which resulted in the evacuation of two homes in the vicinity until the line could be properly shut off.

"No other people or vehicles were involved in the crash, according to police," reports KTLA.

The officer is 42-year-old Jeffrey Sweet of Simi Valley, who was helped out of his vehicle by area residents, then taken to the hospital after the crash. Sweet was arrested when local officers interviewing the man suspected he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
