Our June member drive is live: protect this resource!
Right now, we need your help during our short June member drive to keep the local news you read here every day going. This has been a challenging year, but with your help, we can get one step closer to closing our budget gap. Today, put a dollar value on the trustworthy reporting you rely on all year long. We can't hold those in power accountable and uplift voices from the community without your partnership.

In this day and age, it boggles our mind that people are still leaving their iPods and other valuables in their cars. The Eastsider LA is reporting a rash of Echo Park BFMVs (that's police talk for Burglary from a Motor Vehicle) from "Tweeker Tom." As the LAPD says, "leave it and lose it." It's pretty simple, really, because for a bad guy, breaking into a car is fast and if they know what they're doing, silent. Even for those who park in subterranean apartment garages, you're not safe. Once inside those garages, the LAPD finds themselves with multiple cases at the same address. So believe in it like a mantra: "leave it and lose it..." or at the very least, leave it out of sight.
