Hollywood "Body Parts" Case Linked to 1990s Drug Cartel, Not Canadian "Cannibal Killer"

Theorists looking to attach a headline-making scandal to the already gruesome facts of the murder of Hervey Medellin, whose severed head and other body parts were found in the Hollywood Hills, should be looking at a now-defunct drug cartel.Authorities are now saying that Medellin, 66, had once been a concierge for the Cali Cartel in the 1990s, according to KTLA. However, those law enforcement sources have noted that what Medellin had been doing was above the board, like "renting limos and and hotel rooms, and even shopping with the wives of the cartel's men."

The Cali Cartel was based in Colombia, but moved drugs--primarily cocaine--into the U.S. through their various territories, including Mexico.

Medellin was a former Mexicana Airlines flight attendant, and an avid art collector. He traveled to Mexico at Christmastime in 2011, and called his boyfriend upon his return in January to say he'd be home shortly. Medellin never showed. His head, hands, and feet were found by a dog walker on a trail in Bronson Canyon.

Los Angeles Police are reportedly denying any connection between Medellin's dismemberment and the Canadian "cannibal killer," Luka Magnotta, a gay porn performer and escort accused of dismembering a Chinese graduate student, then eating some of his body parts and mailing others to various agencies in Canada. Magnotta was apprehended in Germany last week.

Another possible motive for Medellin's murder is "a gay lovers' triangle," notes KTLA.
