Victim in Solo Vehicle Crash Was Fleeing Scene of Hit-and-Run

The Los Angeles Police Department are investigating the death of a motorist who, along with her passenger, were involved in a solo vehicle crash near Westmoreland Avenue and 7th Street. The victim, a 64-year-old Los Angeles woman, crashed her vehicle into a steel gate and concrete pillar at about 1:40 p.m. on Wednesday, December 29, 2010.
The accident has been attributed to the driver traveling at a high rate of speed on Westmoreland; investigators determined that the woman was in the process of fleeing the scene of a non-injury collision at 8th and Westmoreland involving her and another motorist. That accident happened when the woman turned left onto Westmoreland and collided with another vehicle; detectives say she was traveling at an unsafe speed at that time, as well.
Moments later, the woman crashed, and she and her passenger, another woman, were found unresponsive on the scene. The driver was pronounced dead at a local hospital, while her passenger sustained severe injuries and is currently in stable condition.
