The 30-year-old son of Los Angeles City Council President Herb Wesson was arrested this weekend at a Los Angeles Police Department DUI checkpoint.

Justin Wesson, who works as his father's legislative deputy, was stopped at the publicized checkpoint in Downtown L.A. at about 8:15 p.m. Saturday, according to City News Service. The younger Wesson was booked and jailed, and released the next morning on $5,000 bail. He had been driving his own vehicle, not a City vehicle, at the time of the arrest.

Herb Wesson said of the incident: "Drinking and driving are against the law...I'm grateful that no one was injured.''

Arraignment is scheduled for October 18.
