Congress has cut federal funding for public media — a $3.4 million loss for LAist. We count on readers like you to protect our nonprofit newsroom. Become a monthly member and sustain local journalism.

Authorities in Manhattan Beach believe there may be more women who have been the victims of sexual assault by a particular area cabbie.

Detectives with the Manhattan Beach Police Department arrested an unidentified Torrance resident last month in conjunction with an alleged incident that took place in August inside the suspect's taxi cab. The victim in that case delayed reporting the encounter until she saw a news report detailing a similar offense in Redondo Beach, according to the MBPD.

If your cabbie in the South Bay touched you inappropriately, the MBPD are asking that you come forward to report the encounter.

Detectives say they are not releasing the suspect's photo in order to ensure interviews conducted with potential victims are not clouded.

Shenouda (MBPD)
UPDATE 12/31/12The Manhattan Beach Police Department recently revealed they have arrested a suspect for the August 19 attack.

The MBPD says that because of extensive media coverage, they received several calls from possible victims and inquiries from surrounding law enforcement agencies.

Investigators are working to determine if the suspect, 38-year-old Sameh Shenouda of Torrance, can be linked to any other similar reported crimes coming in from the tipsters.

Shenouda is employed by United Taxi. The MBPD says that the taxi company involved has been very cooperative with investigators.
