5 Street Robberies in Sherman Oaks Targeted Students
As Silver Lake residents work out communication problems with their local LAPD division, in Sherman Oaks, Senior Lead Officers (SLO) from Van Nuys Division touch base with the community at least three times a month at various monthly meetings and occasional e-mail blasts. Yesterday afternoon, North Sherman Oaks SLO Justin Bergmann warned residents about a new rash of street robberies:
Please take note that we have had approx. five street robberies on Riverside Dr between Van Nuys Blvd and Fulton Ave between 1pm-4pm. The victims have been students from the local schools and the suspects have been targeting lone individuals with cell phones and/or iPods. The suspects have been described as two female hispanics and two male hispanics. Both sets of suspects used a knife. If you have children or your friends have children that are in this area, please advise them to walk to and from school in groups. If someone pulls up in a car next to them just keep walking, don't approach the car. Also it might make sense for [the students] to conceal these items and not be showing them off after school.
Most notably, Notre Dame High School is located at Riverside and Woodman with Millikan Middle School and a private Armenian elementary school within the area crime area. Riverside Elementary is just east of Fulton.
Will there be outrage and a community meeting about these robberies like there was in Silver Lake? Not likely, considering the community is first hearing this from the police and not e-mails rumors and flyers posted around the neighborhood.
