A shooting in an apartment building in the Harbor-Gateway area has left three people dead and a fourth person wounded.

The Los Angeles Police Department got word of the shooting at about 5:45 a.m., according to City News Service.

"Neighbors reported hearing eight to nine gunshots," according to the LAPD, reports the Daily Breeze.

On scene at the apartment in the 1600 block of West 205th Street were three deceased males, whose ages and identities have not been established.

Just a couple of blocks away, a fourth man, said to be in his 30s, was found suffering from a leg wound. That victim was "covered in blood," LAPD Officer Christopher No told L.A. Now.

Reports indicate a red Dodge Charger and a gray Ford Explorer were seen speeding away from the scene.

The LAPD says their investigation is ongoing.

UPDATE 8:40 AM: LAPD Capt. Nancy Lauer told the media the shots were fired following a dispute inside the apartment. Lauer says there is no danger to others in the area. The fourth victim is in serious condition at an area hospital.
