Los Angeles County Assessor Rick Auerbach today announced that he will retire in March, leaving his elected post a few months early after serving for 10 years. “I never thought of myself primarily as a political figure, even though voters have honored me with their trust in three elections,” Auerbach said in a statement. “I have long felt that I would know when it was time to retire and turn this job over to the next generation and that time is now." Auerbach recommends that his Assistant Assessor, Robert Quon, be appointed to run the department as the election approaches in June. Quon will not run for office. The Accessor's job is to deal with all taxable property in the County.
