Quick Facts

  • Today’s weather: Wet, cold
  • Beaches: 50s
  • Mountains: 30s higher elevations, 40s low elevations
  • Inland: 50s - 60s
  • Warnings and advisories: Winter storm warning, wind advisory

Good morning and happy Thursday. But bundle up — it's going to be chilly out there.

We're in second part of this storm system and forecasters say it's going to be colder, with high temperatures mainly in the 50s across Southern California, bringing with them low snow levels.

Most areas will see scattered showers that could bring brief periods of moderate to heavy rain, according to the National Weather Service. There's also a small chance of thunderstorms this evening.

Meanwhile, parts of Sierra Madre near the burn scars of the Eaton Fire will remain under evacuation warnings through at least Friday morning due to the threat of debris flows in areas where there is little vegetation to hold dirt in place. (You can check your evacuation status via Genasys Protect.)

The Inland Empire will see daytime temperatures ranging from 46 to 55 degrees. Elsewhere, temperatures won't get past 60 degrees, with the exception of Coachella Valley, where highs could reach 66 degrees.

Mountain top communities will feel chillier, with highs in the mid 30s — even mid 20s at higher elevations — and down in the 40s to low 50s below 6,000 feet.

Winter storm warning issued for the mountains

The latest winter storm watch has been upgraded to a warning for Riverside and San Bernardino county mountains. That means heavy snowfall of between 4 and 8 inches at around 5,000 feet, up to 1 foot for 6,000 feet, and about 16 inches above 7,500 feet.

Wind gusts could reach up to 60 mph.

Meanwhile, a winter weather advisory is out for the 5 Freeway corridor, Ventura County and the San Gabriel Mountains. These areas could see nearly a foot of snow between now and Friday morning, with gusty winds up to 50 mph. The advisory is expected to be in place until 7a.m. Friday.
