Partly cloudy skies will give way to a warm and sunny day across the Southland today. There will be highs of up to 85 and a low of 50 in some areas. Temperature swings will be less pronounced along the coasts.

Downtown Los Angeles and vicinity will be 80 at the high, and around 60 in the evening. After midnight, there may be some patchy clouds and fog.

Clear skies and warm weather is forecasted for the valleys, but will have a wider temperature swing, with a high of 85 and lows in the mid 50s.

Morning clouds will part in inland Orange County for a mostly sunny day with a high of 78 and a low of 55.

The Inland Empire and Riverside will have a high of 87 and a low of 53, mostly sunny and clear.

The Los Angeles mountains are cooler, with highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s, dipping into 50s at night. Riverside mountains are warmer during the day with a high of 84 and dips to 48 at night.

Coachella will have a high of 100, and a 69 low, all clear. Gusts of 40 miles per hour.

Taking a look ahead: Weather will warm through Wednesday, with temperatures in the 80s and 90s, cooling off slightly towards the weekend.

On this day in 1939, "The Lash of St. Francis" or "El Cordonazo" was a tropical storm that hit Southern California, dropping 11.60 inches of rain on Mt. Wilson.
