Today's highs will be in the 60s for the coasts and very overcast for northern L.A. County beaches, with more chance of sun down at Seal Beach to Newport Beach. More inland it will be a few degrees warmer in the mid 70s, upper 70s for the Inland Empire and warm parts of the San Fernando Valley.

On this day in 1930, Harvey Milk was born. He'd go on to become California's first openly gay man to be elected to public office.

Things to do

  • 'Turandot': British-born (but icon of L.A.) artist David Hockney designed the sets for this production of Puccini favorite Turandot two decades ago, and the show returns to L.A. Opera this week at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. The L.A. Times digs into the unique history of the set and how it came out of long-time storage for this new revival. Starring Angela Meade in the title role, the opera also features Russell Thomas as her suitor and Guanqun Yu.
