In the forecast — smoky skies and afternoon sun for most of the Southland as firefighters continue to battle wildfires in L.A. and Ventura counties and Hesperia.

Temperatures for the beaches will be in the low to mid 70s, up to 78 degrees for the inland coast. Valley highs will be in the 80s, up to low 90s for the western San Fernando Valley.

The Inland Empire will feel the brunt of the warmup with highs in the upper 80s, up to 92 degrees for Riverside. For high desert communities you can expect similar daytime highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. Meanwhile for Coachella Valley, highs will be in the low 100s.

Tonight's lows will drop to the 60s, 70s for the low desert. Taking a look ahead, forecasters say temperatures will warm up for the rest of the week.

About those advisories

A red flag warning has been extended to include the western San Gabriel Mountains and Highway 14 corridor, along with the southern Ventura County mountains and the 5 Freeway corridor until 6 p.m. due to gusty northwest winds and low humidity. Northwest winds will range from 25 to 35 mph, with some gusts up to 55 mph, which will elevate fire conditions, but forecasters say the winds should begin to gradually taper off.

Meanwhile, a wind advisory applies for the Santa Clarita valley until 11 a.m. — expect winds of 25 mph, gusts up to 35 mph.
