The valleys will see highs in the upper 80s to low 90s expect for the western San Fernando Valley and Santa Clarita Valley, where a high of 100 degrees is expected in the warmest areas.

More inland, temperatures will be in the upper 90s up to 104 degrees in lower Riverside county.

Over in the deserts, expect a high of 105 degrees for the high desert and up to 118 degrees for Coachella Valley. Excessive heat for the deserts will end tonight.

Forecasters say gusty winds will prevail over Coachella Valley, with the strongest gusts in northern Coachella Valley of 40 to 50 mph this evening and up to 55 mph for Saturday evening.

Overnight lows will drop to the 60s for interior areas, but remain in the 80s for low deserts. Read why that's a health risk.

Things to do

It's Food Friday! Today is national bagelfest day — check out our guide for where to get the best bagels in LA.

  • Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony in IMAX: Paris is nine hours ahead of L.A., so spend your morning saying “Bonjour!” to the athletes as the XXXIII Olympiad kicks off. NBC is broadcasting the full Opening Ceremony on its Peacock properties if you want to stay in your WFH loungewear, but you can also head to select IMAX movie theaters to catch the ceremony live on a (really) big screen. Keep an eye out for the Lakers’ LeBron James carrying the flag for Team USA.
  • Our food editor Gab Chabran has a new CFE for you in Fountain Valley.

As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.

Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.

We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.

No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.

Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.

Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
