You know the drill. Another cold storm is making its way to the Southland today through Friday. We have the full forecast below.

It will be windy in the deserts — air quality officials have issued a wind dust advisory in the low desert and eastern Riverside County starting at 11 a.m. until 5 a.m. Friday due to strong winds that's expected to increase lift dust and soil, leading to poor air quality. The advisory applies to the San Gorgonio Pass area, Coachella Valley and eastern Riverside County where strong winds of up to 45 mph is expected, and gusts up to 70 mph.

About the upcoming storm

The next storm is here but the good news is that it's a short one.

The National Weather Service says most of Southern California is expected to get less than half an inch of rain, while mountain and foothill areas could see up to an inch. There's a small chance of thunderstorms later this evening, but weather forecasters say lookout for short periods of heavy rain and small hail if and when they occur.

This storm will bring snow to lower elevation levels. A winter weather advisory has been issued for the mountains above 3,000 feet from this afternoon through Friday where the combination of snow, gusty winds and cold temperatures will make for dangerous conditions. Not much snow is expected however — up to 6 inches of snow could fall at elevations of 6,000 feet and up to an inch is expected as low as 3,000 feet.

The storm is expected to move out of the area early Saturday morning making for a sunny but cool weekend.

This day in history

On this day in 1968, we remember the late Martin Luther King Jr. who was assassinated at a hotel in Memphis, Tenn.
