Topline:
The Angeles National Forest’s fire danger has increased to “critical” — the highest level — one day after temporarily closing to the public.
Why it matters: You are not allowed to be in or drive through the area. This includes people who own cabins who would need to get an official exemption from forest officials for access.
Why now: It’s effective immediately as of Thursday afternoon after sitting at the “extreme” level since September.
The backstory: Celeste Morales, public information officer, told LAist that the last time the fire danger level reached critical was during the 2020 Bobcat Fire.
What's next: The Angeles National Forest will be closed through Wednesday, Jan. 15.
