Buzzkill red alert! Work on the 405 Freeway is progressing "ahead of schedule" Caltrans official report on Saturday morning as the first day of Carmageddon gets going, according to LA Now.

"The first girder has been removed. They are working on the second girder," said California Department of Transportation District 7 Director Mike Miles. "People thus far have been staying away from the area, which is allowing us to progress very nicely."

Miles warned, however, that the light traffic experience thus far "could quickly change" if, well, too many people start driving on the freeways.
