A car plunged four stories off the Sports Club/LA parking structure in West L.A. on Tuesday killing the driver, a woman in her 70s, when the vehicle she was driving landed on its roof on the sidewalk below, reports LA Now.

According to authorities the accident in the 11000 block of West Nebraska Avenue occurred at 9:30 a.m. and city building and safety inspectors had been dispatched to the scene where the woman, who was not immediately identified, was pronounced dead. It was not known if she was leaving or arriving at the gym.

The cause of the incident is being investigated with early reports suggesting the woman's white Volkswagen may have hit "a four-foot concrete slab that moved enough to create an opening for the vehicle to roll through," notes LA Now. The barrier was reportedly still somewhat attached to the fourth story of the five-story parking structure.
