This morning a body was found on the steps of a public staircase not far from Echo Park Lake (or what's left of it).Residents in the area told The Eastsider that they heard at least six shots in the area around 11 am this morning. A body was found near Bellevue and Belmont avenues on a public staircase that begins on Glendale Avenue.

There was little other information about victim, and initial reports didn't specify whether the victim was a man or woman. (One resident told The Eastsider it was a man.)

A woman at the scene who said she heard the shots this morning said that she heard the gunfire around the same area two weeks ago. “It’s very dangerous here,” she told The Eastsider.

UPDATE 3:15 pm: The victim has been identified as a 35-year-old man, according to The Eastsider. Police believe that there may be multiple suspects involved and that the shooting was gang-related. One person has been detained.
