One Person Killed, Another Missing, After Boats Crash Off Catalina

One person was killed, three injured, and another is missing after two boats crashed off the coast of Catalina Island.Around 1:20 a.m., early Sunday morning, lifeguards received a call that a two vessels crashed into each other off Descanso Bay, about a quarter-mile northeast of Casino Point. The smaller boat, described as a dinghy, was carrying five passengers. According to the L.A. Times, one person on board the dinghy was killed and another three were injured. A fifth person remains missing.
There are few details on the crash, but a press release from the sheriff's department called the incident a "boating accident."
Of the three injured, two were described as having minor injuries and the other sustained a head injury. According to a press release from the Coast Guard, all three were taken by helicopter to the UCLA Medical Center.
The U.S. Coast Guard is continuing to search for the missing boater with assistance from L.A. County Lifeguards and the L.A. County Sheriff's Department.
