A bicyclist died a few days after crashing into car door opened into a bike lane in Hollywood.

A 49-year-old man was riding his bike south on Vine Street near Banner Avenue on March 3 at 6:30 pm, when a driver opened up her door into the bike lane. The bicyclist crashed into the door, causing him to be thrown from his bike and land in the roadway, according to a release from the Los Angeles Police Department. The man was hospitalized, but he died as a result of his injuries on March 8.

The police blame the 26-year-old woman parking her 2009 BMW for opening her door while it was unsafe. It doesn't appear that drugs or alcohol had anything to do with the crash.

Police are still looking for witnesses, so if you know anything call the West Traffic Division Investigators at (213) 473-0234.
