At least 25 occupants of a panga-style boat have been detained, after authorities determined the vessel was likely holding illegal immigrants being smuggled into the U.S.The boat was spotted at about 5 a.m. off the coast of Abalone Cove in the Rancho Palos Verdes area. "As the boat approached shore, the Border Patrol requested further law enforcement support," explains Virginia Kice of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to City News Service.

By 8:30 a.m. agents had detained 25 people--19 males and six females. Those individuals are being interviewed by investigators with Homeland Security. Those investigators hope to uncover "further evidence related to the smuggling attempt and identify any suspects who were complicit in the scheme," says Kice.

Personnel from multiple law enforcement agencies have been searching the area to determine if there are any other people who may have been aboard the boat.
