Emerson Boatwright and Michelle Veintimilla embrace on stage in the spotlight as characters in a production of 'Little Shop of Horrors.' Behind them is a giant Audrey II plant, waiting dormant.

I sometimes get jealous when I read about all the fall art and theater openings in places like New York and London – and then I remember they need all those exciting things going on because it’s about to be cold in places that aren’t L.A. But it turns out fall is just as busy for great theater and art right here at home.

This week, it’s really just one big culture explosion if you want it to be – from Solange Knowles curating an incredible night of orchestral music at Disney Hall to a Gen X dream come true with Mike Mills of REM and more celebrating the music of Big Star at the Lodge Room. There are also two great shows on stage – local playwright Tom Jacobson’s Crevasse and one of my favorite musicals of all time – Little Shop of Horrors – at South Coast Rep.
