'Come From Away'
-
Hollywood Pantages Theatre
6233 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood
While airplanes have not had the best buzz lately, Come From Away will restore your faith in the joy of flying and frankly – and I’m not saying this lightly – in humanity overall. One of my favorite Broadway shows of the past decade, the musical tells the story of the 9/11 flights that were stranded in Gander, Newfoundland and the community that bound together during a very uncertain moment. The Broadway touring company plays at the Pantages through the end of the week.

Sundance feature War Game comes to the Hammer Museum as part of the Hammer Forum, which brings together politicians, veterans, and legal scholars to discuss the future of American democracy. The “docu-thriller,” which got some buzz at Sundance, takes the events of Jan. 6, 2021, and turns them into a futuristic simulation game. It’s a scary (and arguably necessary) watch.
Directors Jesse Moss and Tony Gerber, film participants, U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp, former Governor of Montana Steve Bullock and more will be on a panel moderated by UCLA professor and legal scholar Rick Hasen following the screening.

At LAist, we believe in journalism without censorship and the right of a free press to speak truth to those in power. Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.
But the game has changed: Congress voted to eliminate funding for public media across the country. Here at LAist that means a loss of $1.7 million in our budget every year. We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.
We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else. Become a monthly member today to help sustain this mission.
Thank you for your generous support and belief in the value of independent news.
