With some drivers reaching speeds of up to 63 mph on city streets, police snagged more than 70 motorists over the weekend in Glendale as part of a citywide speed enforcement crackdown, reports the Glendale News-Press.

Police cited 75 drivers for speeding, including one motorist for traveling at 63 mph and several others who were traveling at more than 50 mph on Victory Boulevard, he said. The speed limit on Victory Boulevard is 35 mph.

Funded by a state grant, the enforcement hopes to reduce the number of speed-related traffic collisions. According to officials about 18% of Glendale’s traffic collisions are related to speeding. No data on it's effectiveness in curbing backward drivers, however.
