How are prediction markets impacting this year’s election?

As we inch closer to Election Day, prediction markets have made their presence felt, not just through direct advertising, but also through partnerships they’ve made with major news outlets like CNN and CNBC. Today on AirTalk, we’ll dig into where things stand on prediction markets, and whether they have had any influence on the way people view the midterm elections.

Guests:

  • Adam Candee, editor of SBC Americas, a digital media publisher that covers business, regulatory and financial news
  • Joshua Mitts, professor of law at Columbia Law School

How do you navigate holiday expectations and tensions?

There are a lot of expectations and tensions that go into figuring out where you’re going to have your turkey dinner, and today on AirTalk we look at how to navigate these negotiations.

One year ago, Congress voted to defund public media, eliminating a critical $1.7 million from our budget every year going forward. But they couldn’t silence us, and we’re not going anywhere. LAist is now 100% community funded and that means we’re taking our future into our own hands and turning to you to keep local reporting strong.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our nonprofit newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our communities. We are free to follow facts wherever they lead and to hold power to account without fear or favor.
