An 80-year-old man shot his wife inside their home in Lake Forest this morning before turning the gun on himself.The 68-year-old woman called sheriff's dispatchers around 8:30 am to let them know her husband was armed and distraught and that she feared for her safety, according to City News Service. When deputies arrived, they found the woman injured inside the home. The man was found in the garage with a fatal gunshot wound.

The woman went into surgery later that morning. She is in stable condition, though her injuries are critical, the Orange Counter Register reported.

The newspaper's website has photographs of the home and surrounding neighborhood. Neighbors told the Register that the couple was social and friendly.
