Police officers have been on high alert for drunk drivers over the past week or so because of the Fourth of July holiday. More than 650 people in the county were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs over six days, according to the "Avoid the 100 DUI Campaign."

The tally began on Friday and ended Wednesday. That's better than last year when there were 836 DUI arrests over the course of four days, according to City News Service. (Then again, that could be because the holiday fell on a Monday last year, whereas this year it fell smack in the middle of the week.)

But because the holiday did fall right in the middle of the week, the saturation patrols aren't taking time off since they figure some people have taken off the rest of the week from work.
