5 Injured After Driver of Van Is Shot to Death and Plows Into Wrong-Way Traffic

The driver of a van in Santa Ana was shot last night, causing him to plow into wrong-way traffic and injure five.Juan Manuel Diaz, 36, of Santa Ana and his passenger were shot around 9 p.m. last night at the intersection of Grand and Edinger Avenues, according to the Daily Breeze. His van careened into wrong-way traffic, and he slammed into a Volkswagen Beetle carrying a family with two adults and three children, ages 5, 8 and 13.
Diaz was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger and the passengers in the other car are in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Santa Ana police gang detectives were investigating the shooting today.
This wasn't the only crash caused by a shooting yesterday. A man in Inglewood slammed into an unmarked police car after being shot. The policeman survived, but he had to be extricated from his car with the Jaws of Life. The shooting victim later died in the hospital, according to the Daily Breeze.
