Average price of SoCal gas rises about 2 cents
The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose today 1.9 cents to $2.994.
The average price has risen 7 cents over the past eight days, including 1.2 cents Thursday.
The average price is 6.6 cents more than a week ago, 5.4 cents more than a month ago and $1.188 more than at this time last year, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
The Orange County average price also rose for the eighth consecutive day, increasing 2.1 cents to $2.987. Gas prices rose nine-tenths of a cent Thursday.
The Orange County average price is 6.8 cents more than a week ago, 5.4 cents more than a month ago and $1.191 more than at this time last year.
"In the beginning of 2009, local gas prices were at their lowest point at well below $2 a gallon and they reached their peak in mid-September at $3.10 to $3.20 a gallon,'' said Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California. "The major factors in the direction of the 2010 gasoline prices will be the economy and the strength of the U.S. dollar.''
