2 Bodies Found in Joshua Tree ID'd as Dutch Music Exec and Girlfriend

Two bodies found Monday evening in the Riverside County portion of Joshua Tree National Park have been identified today as being a couple visiting the U.S. from the Netherlands, according to the Huffington Post. 44-year old Agustinus (Guus) Van Hove, and his girlfriend, 38-year-old Helena Nuellett, were discovered within about a mile of each other inside the park.

Van Hove's body was found by a couple as they traveled along the Black Eagle Mine Road, which is about a mile and half from Pinto Basin Road, a major thoroughfare for the park, says the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. Nuellett's body was found a few hours later along the same road, but about a mile away. Their vehicle was also found on the road, but about five miles away."The two likely died from exposure to the elements, sheriff's Capt. Raymond Gregory said," according to the Desert Sun.
News of Van Hove's passing made waves in his native country yesterday, when his company's website posted about his passing. Van Hove's company is 013, which "is a music production company with 30 employees. They produce about 300 concerts annually and feature everything from metal to world music," notes the Huffington Post. Van Hove is considered prominent in the Dutch music scene, and 013 a respected and popular venue.
With temperatures expected to be in the 115 degree range for the rest of the week, officials are issuing safety warnings to those who travel into the Joshua Tree area for weekend recreation. Explains the Inland News Today:
Whenever traveling in remote areas, the best advice is to stay with your vehicle until help arrives. Park Ranger Joe Zarki advises to have good car maintenance and take food and water. And about trying to use a cell phone to get help in the Joshua Tree National Park, don’t count on it.
“Cell phone coverage is very sketchy. Less than 10 percent of the park has it,” Zarki said.
