A 14-year-old girl was shot this afternoon on the streets of Santa Ana.

Police aren't sure what led to the shooting, but they don't believe that the young girl was the intended target, according to City News Service. The girl was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange and she is expected to survive.

The shooting happened at Shelley and Willits streets in Santa Ana around 4 pm this afternoon. Police said that the shooting may have been a gang-related drive-by shooting that went awry. Several people have been detained, Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna told the OC Register, but no arrests have been reported.
