If you're looking to get away from the weekend's heat weather-wise, you might want to consider heading up the 101 a spell to take in a different kind of heat at the 12th annual Oxnard Salsa Festival, which takes place this Saturday and Sunday. This event promises fun free entertainment, such as Salsa and Latin Jazz musical performances, and offers a marketplace full of crafts, retail items, and gourmet food. The highlight, however, should be in the flavorful tasting area, where for $3 you get a bag of tortilla chips and ten tasting tickets, and the freedom to let your tastebuds roam the tent, scooping up tastes of all kinds of salsa, from the super spicy to the savory or sweet. Admission to the festival is free, and the hot fun happens at the intersection of Fifth & “A” Streets, with free parking available throughout the downtown area.
